About this project
Ethiopia has prioritized climate resilience as part of its national agenda, guided by the Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) Strategy, the updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0, and the 10-Year Development Plan. Despite the establishment of various institutional structures and mechanisms to coordinate climate change actions, the country's climate governance system is still facing issues of fragmentation, lack of clear roles and responsibilities, and inadequate coordination between different levels of stakeholders. The frequent changes in institutional mandates and structures have also exacerbated these challenges, leading to a lack of continuity and consistency in climate change policy implementation. In this context, the Ministry of Planning and Development has requested the support of the Embassy to review and update the existing national climate change governance and coordination system and structures, with a focus on strengthening the institutional framework, improving coordination and collaboration, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of climate change policy implementation. Therefore, this consultancy assignment aims to provide actionable recommendations for strengthening the national climate change governance and coordination system in the county.
