About this project

The Design of the Program Sustainable Development of the Natural Resources (PDDRN-VNN, 2022 – 2027) will elaborate the planification process to contribute to socio-economic development for the population in the Niger Valley in Niger while managing the natural resources in a sustainable way. The strategic planification process will be elaborated in line with the steps of the Strategic Environment Assessment (SEA) to define a shared, integral vision for the Niger valley for sustainable development and a development strategy to realize this vision. The strategic planification process will result in the PDDRN-VNN (2027 – 2050) with concrete objectives and expected results. During the development of the strategic planification process, non-regret projects will be financed. The implementation of the PDDRN-VNN (2027 - 2050) is not within the scope of this initiative. In 2021, the Dutch Embassy in Niger responded positively to the request of the Nigerien minister of Environment and the Fight against Desertification (MELCD) for financial and technical support to developing a strategic planification process for the Niger valley. The Embassy in Niger requested the Dutch Enterprise Agency (RVO) to support the Nigerien government and other stakeholders that are part of the natural resources management with the Design of the PDDRN-VNN.
