About this project

"INCLUDE project is designed based on the key lessons learned from other projects, and specifically those of The Inclusive Dairy Enterprise (TIDE) and the Integrated Smallholder Dairy Programme (ISDAP) projects. Important lessons from earlier projects are that smallholder farmers (SHF) are not necessarily benefitting from innovations in a specific value chain (VC) and that a single-value chain may not enhance resilience of SHFs. Also, the attention for sustainable land use and climate smart agriculture was often limited to the plots under the specific crop or livestock specie, instead of broad sustainable land-use approach. Therefore, INCLUDE uses the PIP participator approach to organize SHFs and looks at the broader Farming Systems (FS), since SHF are taking decisions in a broader context and do not necessarily have access to innovations developed by larger farmers and research, or innovations are not applicable in their context. The project strengthens resilience of SHF households through increased sustainable agricultural production, inclusive livestock markets, sustainable land use, and improved access to nutritious food."
