About this project
Turkana and Marsabit are counties located in the Arid lands (ASALs) of Kenya. ASALs have been marginalised since colonial times. Which makes these counties and its people particularly vulnerable to external shocks, like the impacts of climate change. Unlocking the economic potential of Lake Turkana, with a focus on the fish value chain, food and nutrition security, sustainable management of the lake ecosystem, will result in including these counties in the National economy and reduce inequalities, provide more resilient livelihoods and promote stability. The programme will consist of three pillars. Results will include in a better understanding- and management of the ecosystem, improved income and employment in the fisheries sector with specific focus on women and youths and improved nutritional status of people around the lake and beyond. Key target group are the 500,000 people involved in the fisheries sector. A systems approach is applied in the project design and implementation.
