About this project

After the cyclone Idai (2019) the Beira Resilience and Recovery Plan was drawn up to “build back better” the city of Beira and make the city more climate-resilient. The plan anticipates a large component of infrastructure development, which also involves Dutch funding (DRIVE). Responsible Mozambican entities, donors and financiers are concerned about the sustainability of these investments in infrastructure, particularly on their operation and maintenance (O<(>&<)>M). To address these issues a series of “Round Table” conferences were organized. Resulting action plans include initiatives for the strengthening of the technical and managerial capacity of SASB (Serviços Autónomos de Saneamento da Beira), who are responsible for O<(>&<)>M in sanitation and drainage. The Netherlands have committed to an institutional development and consolidation program to support SASB. The program also envisages the development of initiatives for drainage systems in peri-urban zones where many vulnerable people live.
