About this project

ltpgtOxfam proposes a tennbspmonths WASH project titled “Improving Access to Safe and Durable Water for Drought-Affected Rural Communities in Hargeisa” with a total budget of USD 787,000 under the SHF Reserve Allocation 2 (2025). The project aims to ensure equitable and durable access to safe water for 37,500 people (54 percent female 42 percent children) across eight rural and 4 IDP hosting locations in Hargeisa District, with an additional 9,600 people reached indirectly. The action addresses recurrent drought and chronic water shortages in Somaliland’s dry rural belt, where water systems have degraded and communities rely on costly and unsafe sources. The target locations and priority needs were identified through coordination with the Somaliland WASH Emergency Sub-Sector and a joint primary assessment conducted with the Ministry of Water Resources Development and local communities. The project will enhance water availability, quality, and system sustainability through climate-sensitive infrastructure, community capacity building, and inclusive participation of women and persons with disabilities.lt/pgtltpgtltbgtKey outputs and targetslt/bgtlt/pgtltulgtltligt1 new borehole developed with solar pumping, 1 elevated tank, and 2 distribution kiosks serving 6,000 people.lt/ligtltligt7 existing water systems rehabilitated and solarised in Bali Matan, Sabawanaag, Bender Wanaag, Cadaadley, Agabar, Salahley, and Darasalaam, providing improved water to 24,300 people.lt/ligtltligt10…
