About this project

ltpgtltbrgtThis project was originally designed in response to the cholera outbreak triggered by the April 2025 attacks on Zamzam IDP camp, which displaced nearly 500,000 people, with over 327,000 arriving in Tawila locality. The sudden population influx overwhelmed public services and widened critical WASH gaps, causing a rapidly escalating outbreak. ALIMA responded by scaling up Cholera Treatment Units and Centres, establishing Oral Rehydration Points, and implementing Risk Communication and Community Engagement activities targeting 24,000 conflict-affected people.ltbrgtAs cholera cases declined significantly, ALIMA reprogrammed the project in a first amendment toward integrated health and nutrition services, while maintaining cholera surveillance and preparedness. The reprogrammed intervention expanded equitable access to outpatient curative care, basic sexual and reproductive health services, and community-based nutrition services targeting severe acute malnutrition among children under five and pregnant and lactating women across six sites in Tawila locality: Umda, Daba Nyara, Rwanda B, Tabramarara, Al Jami East, and Shockshoko. The project continues to contribute directly to Health and Nutrition Cluster strategic objectives by strengthening life-saving service delivery, reinforcing local capacity through training and mentorship of MoH staff and community health workers, and improving emergency preparedness and resilience among conflict-affected populations.ltbrgtThis s…
